GUNITE
pools are the most elaborate of all the pool categories.
These are permanent, reinforced pools with concrete
and plaster instead of liners. Excavation is also
necessary, and a wide variety of special options
such as waterfalls, custom steps, and beach entrys
can be easily added to complement these high-quality
pools. Gunite pools are often seen in commercial
applications; many private homeowners, however,
also choose gunite pools for their flexibility
since they can be built in any shape. Gunite pool
owners can also choose from many plaster finishes
or pebble applications, allowing for maximum creativity.
The high quality of these pools usually puts them
in the highest price range.
Installation
It’s not paradise until it’s finished.
You should expect your backyard to be “visually
unpleasant” during the installation process.
Expect a gunite installation to take a number
of weeks. Completion times may vary with inspection
criteria. This is, however, the best pool that
you can ever ask for.
The Gunite Installation Process
The area
for the pool is designated and careful excavation begins.
It is during this step that the shape, depth and size
of the pool the framework is set.
A steel cage is installed
inside the excavated area. Rebar (of engineered sized)
is placed every foot on center in and around the pool.
Once this cage is in place, the electrical and plumbing
lines are installed.
This is where the gunite
comes in. The gunite is blasted into the pool shell
from a hose that resembles those that firefighters use.
The gunite is shot into the rebar structure, forming
a well-supported shell.
The pool gains its
structural integrity and true shape when it is troweled.
This step takes true skill, and you can trust our construction
crews to do superior quality work.
Now that the gunite
has been shot and troweled, the tile and coping are
applied. The coping is the decorative strip around the
perimeter of the pool that connects the pool to the
deck. Then the deck is put in place.
Finally, the plaster
is applied. This is what gives a pool its soft touch.
Now all that's left to do is fill the pool and enjoy!
